This course is a pre-requisite for all other specialty training. Credentials received through this training are necessary for entry into disaster areas and are good for five years. A $30.00 fee for the background check is required and collected as part of the registration process for 18 years and older.  Training is also open to youth ages 16 & 17 years old. Youth do not receive a background check nor are issued an ID badge, so no fee is collected, however; they are encouraged to register to attend class.  Registration online is required by everyone! When you register there is a two step process, first for the background check, then for class registration.

Target Audience: Folks wishing to become certified to work with TBM DR Chain Saw ministry, or expand their skills


Description:  This is a week of ministry and training beginning with dinner on Monday and ending with lunch on Friday.  Basic and advanced classes will also be taught - see the class listings to register for them.  There is a $20.00 registration fee for the retreat & all meals are furnished.  Sleeping will be in dorm style beds so bring bedding and all personal toiletries. There will be a devotional time each morning and evening.  When not in advanced training you will doing chain saw ministry.


The retreat week is a week of training.  There will be only one class each:

Heavy Equipment

Yellow Cap


The retreat begins will supper on Monday and continues until lunch on Friday.


Basic Chain Saw is on Monday night


Climbing starts on Monday night and continues all day Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday


Off the Ground starts on Monday night and continues all day Tuesday


Rigging starts on Tuesday morning and continues all day Tuesday and Wednesday


Heavy Equipment will begin on Thursday morning and continue throughout the day. (this is a change)


Yellow Cap will be taught on Wednesday night just because folks are there who need certification.

Description: This is the Basic Climbing class with the Rescue module added. The class will be limited to 8 students. TBM DR credentials must be current and must have completed the Basic Chainsaw Training class. Students registering for the climbing class are required to register and attend the Rescue Class that is the day after the climbing class. Cost for the Climbing training is $20 and includes a reference manual which you will keep, cost for the Rescue training is free. Registration online for both classes is required! WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO STAY THE ENTIRE WEEKEND.

Non-participating TBM DR spouses are invited to this weekend training.  Spouses, please come attend worship and fellowship with all volunteers and audit a training if you wish.  On Sunday, Holly Brook Baptist Church has invited everyone to join in Worship Service at 11:00 am.


LODGING & MEAL:  Entire Training Package includes lodging for 2-nights in Bible Study rooms of the church and 6 meals: Friday lunch & dinner; Saturday breakfast, lunch & dinner; Sunday breakfast.  Please pack your own towels with your deployment bedding stuff.

Target Audience:Volunteers interested in Texas Baptist Men (TBM) Disaster Relief ministries.

DescriptionIntroduction and Overview of the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief Ministries including the mission statement, history and brief overview of additional ministry opportunities within TBM  This is a required orientation for all new Disaster Relief Volunteers, and current volunteers who's credentials have expired. This course is a pre-requisite for all other specialty training. Credentials received through this training are necessary for entry into disaster areas and are good for five years.A $30.00 fee for the background check is required and collected as part of the registration process for 18 years and older.Training is also open to youth ages 16 & 17 years old.Youth do not receive a background check nor are issued an ID badge, so no fee is collected, however; they are encouraged to register to attend class.  Registration online is required by everyone! When you register there is a two step process, first for the background check, then for class registration.

Yellow Cap volunteers wanting chainsaw training to work with the DR Chainsaw ministry.

Description: Basic skills on how to safely operate chainsaws while helping survivors in a disaster.  Basic tree felling, limbing and bucking techniques will also be reviewed/introduced. This is a full day course with classroom training followed by hands on training with a chainsaw. Students should come dressed for field operations—long pants, preferably long sleeve work shirt, work shoes or boots; no shorts or sandals. Chainsaws and safety equipment will be provided. This training is FREE; however, all attendees are required to purchase a manual at a cost of $12.00. Registration online is required!
